HOCKE Y SCRAMBLE k Maurice "Moe" Roberts was both the youngest and oldest player to ever play goalie in an NHL game. The Waterbury, Conn., native made his NHL debut as a 19-year-old when he stepped in for injured Boston Bruins goalie Doc Stewart against the Montreal Maroons on Dec. 8, 1925. Fast forward to Nov. 25, 1951, when Roberts, who was serving as an assistant trainer with the Chicago Blackhawks, replaced an injured Harry Lumley, in a game against the Detroit Red Wings. At the age of 45, Roberts became the oldest player ever to play in an NHL game; a record he held until broken by Gordie Howe in 1979, and also passed by Chris Chelios.
