32 PULLUSA MAGAZINE WINTER 2018 SUPPORTING THE LEAGUE Being a Platinum Sponsor of the State Championship in Alexandria provides NWTF a great opportunity to meet all the youth, parents, and coaches while also supporting the League directly. Personally, the championship is one of the best times of the year for me. It's even better than the Minne- sota State Fair! Every day the atmo- sphere is electric as athletes and their fans come to represent their school in the world's largest shooting event. THE FIELD INSIGH T The parent or chaperone could even learn to hunt as well! FUNDING THE FUTURE Our former NWTF CEO Rob Keck put it this way: " Without shooting there would be no hunting. With- out hunting there would be no con- servation. Without conservation there would be no wildlife." Hunt- ers and outdoor sportsmen are the best source to provide the funds to protect and enhance the wild places where wildlife thrives. Conservation dollars are raised w i t h t h e e x c i s e t a x o n s p o r t i n g equipment and ammunition that is used and consumed with the USA High School Clay Targ et League. Those funds are administered by the US Fish and Wildlife Service and come back to the states based on the number of hunters that purchase licenses in the state. League students and their parents are also a great source for new mem- bers and leaders for organizations like the NWTF. We have seen that many of the parents and coaches attend our many fundraisers across the state, and some are taking part in the NWTF, by joining our com- mittees and help us with our events. Everyone benefits when we work together! Cultivating the next gener- ation of outdoor enthusiasts ensures that our wild places, our wildlife, and our heritage thrives. We believe the grassroots level through each high school is a great way to reach thousands of kids and grow the shooting program across the nation. We are working hard to spread the good work done by the USA High School Clay Target League to all of our regions and chapters nationwide! Thank you Jim Sable and your team for your vision and leadership to start and grow this program! ✪ Everyone is extremely cordial and it's great to interact with the students. All day long people are stopping by to say thank you! We also use the opportunity to inform the students that we have a great Mentored Hunt Program every spring for turkey hunting, and we invite all youth involved in the League to apply for this hunt if they have never hunted before! Our vol- unteers would love to teach them all about the wild turkey and take them (and a parent/guardian) hunting! O ur mission at the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) is the conservation of the wild turkey and the preservation of our hunting heritage, so it was easy for the NWTF in Minnesota to jump on and support the USA High School Clay Target League. The NWTF supports the League as it helps us reach our goals to recruit hunters and keep hunting viable in the Nation. A smaller and smaller percentage of states' populations are hunt- ing. Some states—such as California—are as low as 3 percent, so it is important to continue to recruit new hunters into the field. Whether that be turkeys, ducks, deer, ruffed grouse, or bear. We support the League because over half of the kids shooting in the program have hunted, and all of them are required to have a Firearms Safety Certificate. Supporting the League means supporting our future! F O R I N F O R M AT I O N A B O U T H OW T O H EL P T H E L E AG U E O R S TA R T A T E A M , G O T O U S AC L AY TA R G E T.C O M DID YOU KNOW?
