KYLER ACORD had never even heard of trapshooting until he learned about the Kansas State High School Clay Target League. Now, he's all in—and he's an all-star. As a member of the Chaparral High School team that competes at the Anthony Gun Club in Anthony, Kansas, Kyler has been racking up the awards. The senior caught up w ith us to talk about his love of shooting sports and the Leag ue. PullUSA: How did you get involved in shooting sports? Kyler Acord: During my hunter safety course, we were required to shoot 10 tar- gets with a 12 gauge. I was terrified and ner- vous because I'd never used a shotgun, but I hit all the targets and it was very exciting. PullUSA: What do you like most about your home club, Anthony Gun Club? Acord: I love the clubhouse we have. It's simple and small and that's what I really like about it. PullUSA: Why did you join the Kansas State High School Clay Target League? Acord: I've always enjoyed shooting guns. It was the first year for the new League and I was excited to give it a try. PullUSA: What other activities have you taken part in outside of the League? Acord: It depends on the time of the year. In the spring I shoot League and play golf. In the summer I work and on the weekends I can be found at the lake, fishing and being on my dad's boat. Fall and winter I like to hunt and go to football games. PullUSA: What would you say to a classmate who was on the fence about giving the League a try? Acord: We love having new faces on the team. In my experience, people who have joined the team have truly enjoyed it. Trapshooting has been a passion that I would have never known existed had I not joined the League. PullUSA: What's the most import- ant advice you can give to younger athletes? Acord: I love the people I'm around. The people are nice, we respect each other, and we take care of each other. When there's a problem, we try to fix it together. The people are great. Each issue of PullUSA features a different high school clay target athlete exhibiting exceptional character and passion for the sport and their communities. ✪ 12 PULLUSA MAGAZINE WINTER 2018 THE LEAD ON T HE L INE 17 High Overall at 2017 KSHSCTL State Tournament; KSHSCTL All-State 2017 AG E FU N FAC T S KYLER ACORD ❚❙❘ SENIOR | CHAPARRAL H.S. | HARPER, KS ❘❙❚ K YLER SHOT 75-STR AIGHT AT THE KSSHSCTL STATE TOURNAMENT L AST SPRING!
