FEBRUARY 2018 USAHOCKEYMAGAZINE.COM // 11 k The medals awarded at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, reflect the traditions and culture of the host nation. Their design was inspired by the texture of tree trunks and feature unique cultural assets of South Korea. The ribbon attached to the medal was created using a traditional South Korean fabric. In total, 259 sets of the medals have been made for the Games, which officially begin on Feb. 9. k While athletes in PyeongChang are on a quest for gold, silver and bronze, Olympic fans have their sights set on a different kind of bling—Olympic pins. One of the most popular Olympic collectibles, pins have become a sought after souvernir among both diehard pin collectors and casual fans alike. With a variety of pin designs for each sport, coun- try, mascot and countdown milestone, hundreds of pins will be sold, swapped and given away at the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Honav USA, Inc., the official licensee of U.S. Olympic Committee, created different pins that will be given to players and staff members with the U.S. Men's and Women's Olympic Hockey Teams to spread goodwill during the Games.
