Most didn't want to see it end at all. In what will go down as one of the greatest gold-medal games ever played, the U.S. National Junior Team rode the hot hand of Troy Terry and the cool composure of Tyler Parsons to its fourth gold medal at the IIHF World Junior Championships with a dramatic, 5-4, shootout victory. Just 24 hours after scoring three shootout goals to help defeat Russia in the semifinals, Terry slipped a low shot between the legs of Canadian goaltender Carter Hart to provide all the cushion that Parsons would need to backstop the victory for this tight-knit squad of Americans. "When we got together in [Plymouth], Michigan for our camp this summer, there was something special with these guys," said Bob Motzko, head coach of Team USA. "This team had great camaraderie, tremendous heart and always battled. This is a special group who will forever walk together." The U.S. rallied from a pair of two-goal deficits, including one early in the third period to force a dramatic overtime that featured count- less scoring chances and end-to-end action that kept the near-record crowd of 20,173 at Montreal's Bell Centre on the edge of their seat. Led by the timely scoring of Clayton Keller and the staunch defense anchored by Charlie McAvoy, both of whom were named to the tournament all-star team, the Americans finished with a perfect 7-0-0 mark, including a pair of victories over the Russians and Canadians. "The 23 of us, all the way from summer camp to Buffalo camp, we knew we had to come up huge," said U.S. forward Kieffer Bellows. "Kids looking up to us, teenagers, older adults that love hockey so much were looking up to us. We came out on top, and hopefully the country's proud of us."
