With The NHL Season On The Horizon, USA Hockey Magazine Previews What Promises To Be Another Exciting Season 20 T SEEMS LIKE AN ETERNITY since Alec Martinez sent his gloves and stick into orbit after scoring the overtime Cup winner. But while gravity eventually returned the Rochester Hills, Mich., native's gear back to earth, the Los Angeles Kings are still flying high as they celebrate their second title in the past three years. If there's one thing an exciting Stanley Cup playoff series does is it leaves fans clamoring for more. Good news puck fans; a summer of backyard barbecues and ice bucket challenges are in the rearview mirror and another NHL season is just over the horizon. Once again, there are plenty of storylines to keep even the most casual fan tuning in this season. In the East, the N.Y. Rangers look to take the final step in their quest for the Cup. They should have plenty of company with the Boston Bruins ready for another title run, while the Pittsburgh Penguins, under new leadership both behind the bench and in the front office, are determined to live up to the preseason hype. And down in Tampa, Jon Cooper and his Lightning are determined to show that last year's 100-plus point campaign was no fluke. Out West, the Chicago Blackhawks locked up their dynamic duo – Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane – to long-term deals, while Ryan Miller hopes that the magic touch that he displayed at the 2010 Olympics will translate to NHL ice in Vancouver. In Anaheim, the Ducks are hoping they found the missing piece to their championship puzzle in Ryan Kesler. And of course, don't count on the Kings to relinquish their crown without a fight. So hold on tight, hockey fans, and get ready for another wild ride. If last season is any indication, there are many more great days for hockey ahead of us.
