Devils The top two picks in the 2019 NHL Draft meet head-to-head for the first time on NHL ice as Jack Hughes and the Devils host Kaapo Kakko of the Rangers at the Prudential Center. There are 1,271 games on the NHL docket during the 2019-20 regular season, and here are several dates we've circled on the calendar: WHEN THE PUCK DROPS on the 2019-20 NHL season, all eyes will be on Jack Hughes, the No. 1 overall pick of the New Jersey Devils. The Orlando, Fla., native has been dubbed a once in a generation type of player and com- pared to the likes of fellow National Team Development Program alumnus Patrick Kane, Phil Kessel and Auston Matthews. Only time will tell if he can live up to the hype. In the meantime, there's plenty of excitement to keep hockey fans of all 31 NHL teams on the edge of their seats this season.
