Growing up in Grosse Pointe, Mich., the Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman recalled how a new approach to USA Hockey drills and development influenced his playmaking abilities. It's made him the star player he is today. " You can learn a lot by playing small-area games," said Werenski, who was a member of the USA Hockey's National Team Development Program. "You are not just a defenseman or forward. You are kind of doing everything. You are making quick plays in tight spaces and looking to score goals."
